This isn't so much about one certain place, as much as an activity. I've always been against putting on shoes hundreds possibly thousands of people have put their sweaty little toes in, but I recently broke down and stepped foot into a bowling alley.
All these years of putting it off, and now I'm addicted.
Bring a group of friends to the local bowling alley in your neighboorhood, order some pitchers and fried food, and play it out amongst your own little teams. No need to worry about how good you bowl or if you ever have before because after the second pitcher even the professional bowlers in your group will be splitting the gutters.
Splitting the gutters or hitting strikes, you will definitely leave laughing as someone is destined to fall flat on their butt or throw the ball backwards. All in the name of drunken sports.
My favorite place is Don Carter's on the southwest corner of University Drive and Southgate Road. They have the most lanes around, so it's always easier to get into a lane, even when the leagues are running. And as an added bonus, they run leagues for people just wanting to have some fun, or for people ITB.
And if your still a little freaked out, just go and join in on the drinking and watch. After a few pitchers or mixed drinks you'll put all your reservations aside and slip (pun intended) on down to the lane.

Surround Yourself in Luxury at Grille 66
Location: 2301 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Located on the Hyatt Pier 66 premise, this restaurant looks out over the Intracoastal Waterway, with a breathtaking view from any seat in the house.
Everything from the minute you enter the building evokes luxury, all the way down to the tiny shaped butters served with the bread before your meal. However nothing shouts it from the rooftop more than the view of the yachts parked in the hotel's marina.
If you can take your eyes away from the view long enough to read the menu, you will find that it is jam packed with delicious goodies, including every type of seafood you can imagine along with steaks, pastas, and chicken. Each is prepared in a mix of sauces and herbs, which perfectly complement the main course. My personal favorite are the Twin Maryland Crab Cakes with Frites and Roasted Corn and Jalapeno Relish. They are just as good, if not better, than eating fresh crab cakes at a fish market on the Potomic.
However, everything is served Ala Carte, and with an average meal running around $30, adding sides can bump the price close to $50. Be prepared to spend upwards of $150 per couple plus gratuity to dine here. But believe me, it is all worth the experience. Not to mention the hotel has a rotating bar on the top floor, which as I hear has the best view of the city in town. Sadly, I have never been up there, but you can be sure I will visit on my next visit!

Dave & Buster's, A Playground for the Kid at Heart
Location: 3000 Oakwood Blvd. Hollywood, Fla.
Leave the kids with the sitter, dress comfortable enough to move, and shoot on down to Dave & Buster's in the Oakwood Plaza just off I-95 and Sterling Road.
There are always good times to be had when you mix arcade games with a full liquor bar and a group of adults just waiting to release some stress. This is where it happens.
But that's not all. This place can also double as one of the best first dates places in town. You can start with some drinks, ease up on the nerves, have some dinner from their delicious menu (which suprisingly for this type of place is much more that burgers and fried finger foods), then let loose and get to know eachother while playing your favorite games.
Games range from Skee Ball to the latest high tech video arcade game, and some of the classics like Mortal Kombat. Some of the games can be pricey, and as a rule of thumb remember that the more interactive it is (ie your riding on a pony during game play) the more money it will cost. However, they are always running specials where you buy dinner and you get some game play free. These specials are always changing, sometimes weekly, so I'm not going to quote any here.
Another great thing is that it is located in one of the largest plazas around town, full of other restaurants, shops, and even a movie theatre if your up for more fun after. Either way, Dave & Busters is a guaranteed place for fun.

All Star's Sports Bar and Grill Hosts the Ultimate ITB Parties
Two Locations:
2201 W. Sample Rd.
Deerfield Beach, Fla.
5280 N. State Road 7 (441)
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
With two locations, All Star's Sports Bar and Grill has something to fit your club/bar going experience. They are open daily from 11 a.m. until 4 a.m., and specialize in events which range from local radio station's live broadcasts to private parties.
Every night is a different special, and both bars run on a seperate schedule. Wednesdays and Fridays are Ladies Nights at the Sample Road location where all ladies drink free from 5 p.m until closing, which is 11 hours of free drinks a night.
The State Road 7 location takes a different turn, and holds a Tuesday night "guys only" Kill the Keg contest. They also have Thursday night $5 all you can drink Icehouse beer for everyone.
The best thing is that they serve food all night, right up until close. You can even drink all night, then order carry out right as you are leaving. They serve a complete menu with everything from sandwhiches to entrees, however I can not quote anything on the food personally. The downside to this is that for smokers, you have to go outside and take a drag because you can not smoke inside.
They do have games like pool and darts to keep you entertained, however the nightly usual is for hot girls to get on the bar or stage and take it off. Saturday night at the Sample Road location is the Circuit Girl Model Search, so get ready to get down to the bare minimum if you dare.
Everynight is 50 percent off bar tabs for all ITB customers. Just remember to tip well or you will not be served again!!
Cheers.

Ocean Fest 2007 Lets Wannabe Diver's Join in
Location: Fort Lauderdale Beach near East Las Olas / A1A
When: April 20th - 22nd
Unlike many street venue festivals, Ocean Fest allows it's participants to join in and get wet with the professionals. With over 150 exhibits lining the beach, there has to be something to tickle your fancy.
Some of the events they advertise are
Beach parties with food, drink, and music
Free kids scuba program
Underwater treasure hunt
Ecology and dive seminars
This is sure to be a family affair, and all ages are welcome to join in on the fun. Children under 12 are free, and all others are $9 per day or $19 for the weekend, which if you plan to be in the area is a great price considering you only pay $1 for the third day.
I have never been down to the beach for the event but the website, found at www.oceanfest.com, lists pictures to give you an overall idea of how the festival is run. One of the greatest things I noticed is that all the venders are situated under a large tent, so shopping through them won't require a large amount of sunscreen, always an added plus for me.
Hope to see you there!

BBQ Goes Upscale at Bucky's
Two South Florida Locations:
1198 N. Dixie Hwy
Boca Raton, Fla. 33432
1451 N. Federal Hwy
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. 33304
If you're looking for amazing homestyle BBQ, but don't want the usual picnic tables covered in red and white plaid, this is the place for you.
This is the upscale version of the usual ribs and chicken joint, but with the same great taste. The restaurant is fashioned in black leather and wood tables, and reminds me of something straight out Texas.
They have one menu which is served all day, including everything from ribs to chicken to sandwhiches, and feature specials of fresh wood smoked fish. My personal favorite are the Kansas City Sticky Ribs, which practically fall off the bone, however they are famously noted for their slow cooked Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwhich. (I must add this is another favorite of mine!) Choose the mac & cheese as your side, it is absolutely to die for as it's the creamiest, meltiest, and most delicious mac & cheese I have ever had.
The average cost for a meal is about $15, which is much higher than the average BBQ restaurant, but worth every penny. Check out the website at http://www.buckysbar-b-que.com/, and look over the menu items, which each boast a very realistic picture of how the item will arrive on your plate.

Pompano Beach Amphitheatre: New Times 2006 Best of Winner
1806 N.E 6th St.
Pompano Beach. Fla.
Voted "The Best Venue for Live Music" in 2006, this place really lives up to its award. Owned by Fantasma Productions, the same company that owns Mizner Park and the Palm Beach Amphitheatre, this place knows how to put on a show.
The acts are always ecclectic, ranging from Weird Al Yankovic to Snoop Dogg to Godsmack. It's an amphitheatre, so everything is held outside with lots of room to move around. It's the best thing because there are no assigned seats so you can get there early, find a lawn spot, and start drinking right away. Plus you don't feel so bad when you're not paying full attention to the band and everyone else is (as is always my case).
Upcoming events include Bloc Party (May 27), The Flaming Lips (April 13), my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd (April 14), Godsmack (May 12), and Weird Al (May 25).
For more information on upcoming events, check out www.fantasma.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
Don't forget to bring a large blanket to sit on, and some OFF! bug spray because you will be sitting on the grass with bugs. And if you're very light skinned, bring SPF lotion as well.

Swig Bartini : Finally a Chic Place for an Older Crowd
1744 Main Street
Weston, Fla
954-349-2102
This place serves two purposes: either a place for a few drinks after dinner at any one of the many restaurants in the Weston Town Center or, as a place to go out with friends and get away from the 18-21 crowd.
Any way you choose, your guaranteed to have a good time here. The music rotates between latin, swing, pop, and jazz ... all in the same night. That being said, this is the place to go for the ecclectic crowd.
They do serve some food, so it is a non-smoking facility inside, however there is a great outside bar serving up lots of drinks in the open free air.
If your looking for VIP, check into their bottle service and grab a table or two for the night. Plant your booty down and watch the soccer moms go at it on the dance floor. If nothing else, this can lead to some serious laughs by the end of the night.
For specials and VIP reservations, go to their website at www.swigbartini.com.

Shrimp Tails Fly at Japan Inn
Locations:
1781 N. University Dr. in Sunrise (954) 424-8855 ~or~
1798 Weston Town Center in Weston (954) 659-7847
If you're a fan of Asian flair, venture to either of the two family owned restaurants for the meal of your life.
Most meals are served Hibachi style, which if you're not familiar with it is where the chefs cook your meal right in front of you. It's not just a meal, but an entertaining show with fire blazing across the table and shrimp tails flying onto plates across the room.
While the entertainment varies depending on who the chef is, all the food tastes the same and is the best in town. If you are partial to places like Benihana's, skip the overpriced food and corporate atmosphere and come to a place where they really appreciate your business.
I've tried most of the hibachi meals which consists vegetarian dinners, steaks, shrimp, scallops, and chicken in several varieties and includes soup, salad, rice, and veggies. However, it's the Fried Wahoo appetizer that will blow your mind. I suggest ordering it as your meal, along with the vegetarian hibachi meal. It's a lot of food, but there will be plenty left over for the next day's lunch.
Come hungry, leave happy, without your wallet taking a beating.

Take Time to Relax on the C-14 Canal
Again, I can't give an exact location for this one either, but this time it's just because there are so many options as to where you can set up your little fishing picnic.
The C-14 canal runs across Broward County in several places, and is full of an array of fish waiting to chomp on your hook and bait. I don't recommend you come to catch dinner, but catch and release fishing is a great way to spend the day and catch some rays.
I have two favorite spots along the canal. First is Veteran's Park in Tamarac, which sits on the corner of Southgate Boulevard and University drive. There is a boat ramp here as well, so if land fishing isn't your thing you can trailer a small boat and lauch it here. The second spot is at the dead end of Atlantic Boulevard and the Sawgrass Expressway. When you come to the intersection turn left like you are entering the highway, but pull over in the sandy area and walk along the path to the canal.
Either way you choose, bring one pole per person and a ton of bait, especially if you are not a seasoned fisherman. Carry along a blanket or towel, as well as drinks and food. Relax the rest of the day away.
I know this isn't the usual bar/club entry I usually do, but after trying this out the past weekend it's something I can't not to share. And if you're not into the fishing but a friend/partner is, go along for the food and drinks. It's a great way to get a romantic picnic out of your boyfriend, I bet he won't even notice.
Just a note, a great place to pick up some cheap bait and tackle out west is Lloyds Tackle on Rock Island Road and Southgate Boulevard. It's cheap, but the best part is Lloyd actually works there and will help you out if you're unsure on what you need. He even gives quick lessons and tips for newcomers.

Late Nights are In the Biz at TW's in Parkland
So far I've given an exact address and phone number for everywhere I list, but this one I can't find anywhere. However, this place deserves a spot on this blog anyway. So without further adieu, here's directions to get you started.
It's in Parkland, so wherever your coming from get to 441, going north of the Sawgrass. Continue north until you pass Holmberg Road. At the next light, make a u-turn and turn into the plaza that will be on your right hand side. TW's sits quietly in the corner of the plaza under the blue and white striped banner.
The thing about this place is that it is very simple, drinks are served in plastic cups, and the lights are very dim. This being said, the low cost interior makes for low cost drinks. They have about three beers on tap, but each of them runs about $5 a pitcher or even cheaper. Mixed drinks are just as cheap, but the beer girl I am, I can't quote exact prices.
The bar stays open until at least 5 a.m., and sometimes later depending on the crowd inside. Come prepared to drink as most of the patrons are restaurant staff from around Broward County looking for somewhere to unwind after a long day's work.
If you are In The Biz (ITB) make sure you let them know, and the price of your drinks will dwindle. Tip the bartenders well, and you will probably drink for free.
Either way, when you go here sit back on one of the leather couches, get drunk, then play darts, video games, or pool, whaever your drunk heart desires.
Cheers

The Southwest Meets South Florida at Buffalos Southwest Cafe
5761 Coral Ridge Dr.
Coral Springs, Fla
954-757-4500
This restaurant, which is located in a still developing area of Coral Springs, ranks on the top of the list for places to go for a quick bite to eat and a lot of liquor to drink. It reminds me of a steakhouse in Texas with the southwest decor, including swinging doors between all the main areas of the restaurant.
One of the great things is that since they call themselves a southwest cafe, they use a very flavorful array of spices to keep the food up with the theme, unlike some of their older chain competitors (ummm ... Chili's ring a bell?)
However, Chili's this place is not. The food is really good, and prices are average for what you are getting with burgers ranging in the $8.99 mark. The best burger in the house is the Blackjack Burger hands down. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, get the Fajitas, something you can rarely go wrong with anywhere. Here, they are amazing. The one bad thing is that drink, especially bottled beer and shots, can get quite expensive if you aren't there during Happy Hour or don't order drinks from the specials menu.
If you do go there, I recommend sitting at the bar to eat. It's the best seat in the house if you're there to watch a game, or just want something to lay your eyes on while you throw back some Heinekens. Also, weekend mornings the bartender is a short stubby guy, Nate, who is also a manager. I recommend going when he's behind the bar, if nothing else, he will definitely keep you entertained with his wise cracks and witty humor, not to mention his attempts as flair bartending.
If you think you might get lost on your way, because believe me it's out there, check out the website for directions at www.buffaloscafe.com. Here they also list the menu, minus pricing. And hey, if you like the place and have an extra $300,000 to throw around, they are looking for franchise prospects for anyone interested.
Either way, Cheers.
